Discover Dalrymple Unearthed: A Tasmanian Pinot Noir Experience at Pipers River

On Saturday 17 May, we launched our inaugural Dalrymple Unearthed event at our Pipers River home – a Tasmanian Pinot Noir experience like no other. Peter Caldwell, our Vigneron, was particularly excited to  share a piece of our Tasmanian home with both familiar faces and new friends.

The day began with a warm welcome by the fire, a perfect setting to enjoy canapés and a chilled glass of our Dalrymple Vineyards Single Site Estate Coal River Chardonnay. The morning air had a fresh chill, but the beautiful warm autumn sun soon cut through the coolness, making for an idyllic start to the day.

A Walk Through the Pipers River Vineyards

From there, we ventured into the vineyards, taking a leisurely walk up the hill with views stretching all the way to Bass Strait. This was a moment to truly appreciate the landscape that surrounds us. In the heart of the Piper's River vineyard, we gathered around the barrel for a tasting of our Dalrymple Vineyards Single Site Estate Pipers River Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, both of which were born from the very vines we stood beside.

Behind the Scenes:

Pruning and Viticulture Insights   Peter took the opportunity to lead the group through the fascinating process of pruning—preparing the vines for the next vintage. His insights into the art and science behind viticulture left everyone with a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into each bottle.

Exclusive wine tasting

Returning to the lawn by the fire, guests were treated to more canapés and a glass of wine, the perfect way to relax before heading indoors for an exclusive Pinot Noir masterclass. In the Dalrymple Barrel Room, we explored a curated selection of museum and current releases from our winemaker’s cellar. These wines that are not available for tasting or purchase outside of special visits to Dalrymple. Among these were the 2014 and 2022 Dalrymple Vineyards Single Site Coal River Pinot Noirs, as well as the 2018 and 2022 Dalrymple Vineyards Single Site Ouse Pinot Noir. The highlight of the session was the sneak preview of the 2023 Dalrymple Vineyards Mt Lord Pinot Noir, still in the bottle but not yet released to the public.

Long Table Lunch Featuring Local Flavours

After the masterclass, we shared a long table lunch, a true highlight of the day. Season’s Pantry prepared a feast fit for the occasion: flame-grilled picanha beef, rotisserie chicken with lemon sage stuffing, charred root vegetables, roast potatoes, and a fresh garden salad. Each dish was complemented perfectly by glasses of our Dalrymple Vineyards 2023 Tasmanian Pinot Noir and Coal River Chardonnay.

Sunset, Cheese, and Final Sips

To wrap up the day, guests enjoyed a selection of fine Tasmanian cheeses, paired with crackers and smoked apple paste, before returning to the fire pit for a twilight glass of wine. As the last rays of sunlight dipped behind the hills, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect end to an unforgettable day.
